Welcome!

My name is James Brown. I am a maths teacher at Barr’s Hill School in Coventry, UK, a PhD student at the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues, University of Birmingham, and Research Coordinator at the Futures Education Institute.

My mission is to better understand how to empower young people – especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds – to lead flourishing lives. I want to share what I learn along the way and put it into practice.

I write a blog about character education and host a podcast where I reflect more broadly on teaching, learning, and life in schools.

On the maths side of things, I’ve also begun compiling the narrative-driven questions I use to introduce new topics – part of a growing project called Motivated Maths.
